About DC Tories

D.C. Tories is the official Washington, D.C. branch of Conservatives Abroad, also known as Tories Abroad, the expatriate organisation of the British Conservative Party (

There are approximately 35 branches around the world, and as more Britons choose to live and work all over the world, this number will continue to increase.  More information on Conservatives Abroad can be found at http://www.conservativesabroad.com

Tories a
broad aims to provide support and overseas membership of the Conservative Party (www.conservatives.com).  It endeavours to identify and register those British citizens living overseas who qualify under the 15 year rule as voters to support the British Tory Party in relevant elections.  Being a member of Tories Abroad provides a forum for like-minded people to socialise and gives a platform for political discussion on matters of mutual interest.  Branches act as a distribution centre to members for information originating from the Tory Party in London.  Tories Abroad also encourages British voter registration and liaises with like minded political organizations.

The mission of the modern Conservative Party: a responsibility revolution to create an opportunity society

In 2006, the Conservative Party published its statement of aims and values – Built to Last. In his foreword, David Cameron put “a responsibility revolution” at the heart of the modern Conservative Party’s mission:

“The country needs a new direction and new answers. I am clear about the new direction we must set for Britain. To meet the challenges of the Twenty-First Century, and to satisfy people’s aspirations today, this country needs a responsibility revolution.

“A revolution in personal responsibility – giving every individual the skills, the resources, and the confidence to take control of their life. A revolution in professional responsibility – giving all those who work in our public services the freedom to fulfil their vocation.

“A revolution in civic responsibility – giving our neighbourhoods and communities the power to shape their destinies, fight crime and improve the quality of life. A revolution in corporate responsibility – giving business the encouragement and the incentive to help enhance our environment and improve well-being.

“That is the mission of the modern Conservative Party: a responsibility revolution to create an opportunity society – a society in which everybody is a somebody, a doer not a done-for.

“Ours is a message of change, optimism and hope. Our aims and values are built to last; they are as relevant now as they have ever been. In this document, we show how those aims and values apply to the great challenges our generation faces today.”
